Endeavour Hills Celebrates Diversity For Harmony Day

Harmony Day 2010

Harmony Day came to Endeavour Hills on Wednesday 24th March 2010 as the Endeavour Hills UnitingCare Neighbourhood Centre held their 6th annual Harmony Day celebration.

Approximately 35 people from over 15 different countries enjoyed a feast of culturally diverse dishes for morning tea.   Apple kuchen, coconut rice, biryani, pilau, baklava, spring rolls, warak dawali, chicken curry, lamingtons, pavlova and scones with jam and cream were some of the delicious fare provided and enjoyed by all.

Entertainment was provided by two of the Centre’s tutors and an English student – Claudia Camargo  the salsa and samba tutor and Charni,  from Happy Hips Bellydance, the belly dance tutor gave crowd pleasing performances while Nochta Ork from Cambodia beautifully sang a traditional song.  Participants on the day , including Cr Shah Balmes and Centre Coordinator Bev Lamont, were encouraged to get up and “have a go” much to the amusement of those in the audience.

Bev Lamont, Co-ordinator of the Centre, said “the day was a huge success, and feedback was very positive.  We had representatives from India, China, Afghanistan, Turkey, Greece, Sri Lanka and Pakistan just to name a few; everyone had a good time and particularly enjoyed the dancing.”
